The Flamenco Influences:
Popular pre-flamenco music and new-born flamenco in the 19th century captivated both Albéniz and Falla. In both sources, the inspiration and the compositional and repertoire material necessary for the creation of his works of nationalist-Andalusian style. The study of the works of these composers is essential in a double sense: on the one hand, it is fundamental for the investigation of the musical roots of flamenco, the music that is transmitted orally, has not been reflected in the scores. On the other hand, knowledge of the musical language of flamenco can help classical musicians to understand and interpret these works. This article is based on the analysis of a selection of works by Falla and Albéniz, understood in the perspective of flamenco and pre-flamenco folk music, proposing a revision of formal, melodic, rhythmic and harmonic concepts.
