José Manuel Ramos pertenece a la cuarta generación de una familia de músicos y cantadores canarios que lleva el folklore en la sangre. Se inicia en la música desde muy joven, de la mano de su madre, Olga Ramos, y la Rondalla Zebenzui de Punta Hidalgo, dirigida por Manuel Ramos junto a Sebastián Ramos “El Puntero”, su tío abuelo; nombres que son una parte ineludible de la historia de la música tradicional canaria.
Su entrada como solista principal en Los Sabandeños marca un punto de inflexión en su carrera; con ellos, participa en algunos de los discos más exitosos del grupo. Paralelamente a su carrera como solista, funda La Parranda de Cantadores, en la que intervienen las mejores voces del panorama musical canario; una agrupación en la que José Manuel Ramos se ha enriquecido como director y arreglista y con la que ha recorrido numerosos escenarios con gran éxito.
Por su parte, Benito Cabrera ha sido uno de los impulsores de la renovación del timple, desde sus orígenes como instrumento de acompañamiento folklórico a las salas de concierto de muchos países. Ha actuado en las ciudades más importantes del territorio español, así como en 19 países de varios continentes. Cabe destacar los conciertos realizados en el Konzetrhaus de Berlín, el Carnegie Hall de Nueva York o el Teresa Carreño de Caracas.
Ha sido el primer timplista en incluir el timple en el ámbito sinfónico y es autor de varios trabajos de divulgación etnográfica y métodos para la enseñanza del timple. Ha editado 12 discos en solitario.
Desde el año 2007 es el director musical del grupo Los Sabandeños y coordinador de la Casa-Museo del Timple en Teguise (Lanzarote).
