Estamos ante un disco luminoso. La llamada tiene aire de fiesta, textos donde abunda una poesía de la felicidad que reconforta. Son canciones para un tiempo nuevo. Alegría de vivir en medio de la tempestad.
"La vida fue un ensayo hasta ahora/ Sal a la calle/ Salta las olas" reclama Ismael Serrano.
Pero ¿a qué suena La llamada?

Suena a Ismael Serrano (por supuesto) pero hay más. Hay sonidos de América Latina, la épica de cierto rock de combate, pop en el mejor sentido de la palabra, canción romántica, candombe, bachata e himno de cancha.

Es canción de autor para el siglo XXI.
En este disco se menciona a Kurt Cobain, se cita a Silvio Rodríguez y en uno de los temas junto a Ismael Serrano canta Natalia Lafourcade, una de las más bellas voces del joven pop mexicano.
Y además de todo eso: ¿a qué suena La llamada?
A América.

En el principio fue el folclore. O el folk, si se prefiere. Todo músico no hace sino reinventar el folclore, cantar otra vez sobre esos viejos sonidos que hechizaban alrededor de la hoguera en la noche de los tiempos. Algunos músicos lo saben, otros (pobres de ellos) lo ignoran. El folclore está en el origen del rock, del punk, de la música electrónica... Ismael Serrano lo sabe. Conoce perfectamente que en el principio fue el folclore y que a los ritmos de cierto folclore hay que regresar de cuando en cuando.
E Ismael Serrano actualiza el candombe y lleva a su terreno la bachata y convierte los sonidos de carnaval del Uruguay en un himno global titulado La llamada.

Pero no sólo eso. Ismael Serrano igual bebe del pop y el rock, de las baladas de Damien Rice y otros cantautores británicos, de los violines celtas y de cierto tono insurreccional del punk.
Y La llamada es un himno. A todo artista le gustaría componer un himno. Bob Dylan hubiera matado por haber sido el inventor de La Marsellesa. Bueno, eso es una boutade. Dylan escribió Blowin' in the wind que es un himno. Ismael Serrano también construye himnos. Lo fue Papá, cuéntame otra vez. Y lo es La llamada.
